Registration

For the past five years, the Lincoln Marathon has sold out faster than the previous year. For the 2012 event, registrations filled in 27 days.  Although we expected to beat that this year, we never expected it to fill up in less than 16 hours, once the half-marathon registration opened.  Not sure what this means for future years -- perhaps registrations will be accepted via lottery?

This year we opened the full marathon registration on Dec 8th, a couple of weeks earlier than the half-marathon (on Dec. 21st).  This was an attempt to increase the ratio of marathoners to half-marathoners.  In 2012, there were 1,171 marathon finishers compared to 6,776 half-marathon finishers.  That's a 15/85 ratio, which is a little lower than preferred.  We knew the marathoners are not going to fill up the event, so we gave them a couple of weeks to register before opening it up to half-marathoners.

Registration closed once 10,000 registrations were reached.  Actually 10,006 were accepted because registrations that were in progress were allowed to be completed.
